The Good News in Education: Best Practices in School and Community Partnerships - Tuesday, January 16, 2001
Time: 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM ET
The January 2001 Satellite Town Meeting will present some of the best “good news” stories from schools and communities in the past three years’ broadcasts. In a pre-recorded program, U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley will offer some of the Town Meeting’s most engaging videotaped reports. The program will feature several stories where schools and communities are working together to improve reading, math, teaching, technology, early childhood programs and many other important issues for education. Among the featured examples will be reports on how…

- a Navajo reservation’s schools have used technology to revolutionize teaching and learning;
- an Oklahoma City Aerospace Science & Technology Education Center fosters interdisciplinary teaching and learning in area schools;
- a dynamic, community-wide effort involving schools, the local housing authority, and the police helps Ypsilanti, Michigan, students to learn to read and stay safe;
- teachers in the Pittsburgh Public Schools are learning new ways to teach mathematics and science;
- students with disabilities are working alongside their regular-education peers and meeting high academic standards in a full-inclusion elementary school in Boston;.
