Creating High-Quality Preschool: New Ideas for Supporting Early Learning Programs - Wednesday, November 15, 2000
Time: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM ET
A live, interactive teleconference on how schools and school districts can create and fund high-quality pre-school programs.
School districts and communities across America are working together to meet the challenge to expand learning opportunities for young children. Parents and policymakers know recent research says that all children, even in the earliest months of their lives, have an amazing ability to learn. Some imaginative public schools systems are placing a powerful and sustained focus on the early years of children’s lives - before they attend kindergarten. But the need remains to provide high-quality pre-school programs for all, using immediately available resources.
This teleconference will suggest ways that schools and districts can use existing federal funds - including monies from the U.S. Department of Education’s Title One program - to make a substantial investment in pre-school programs. Using real examples, the program will explore ways to creatively combine these funds with state and local monies and develop partnerships to serve young children. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Education will be available to take questions live during the program.
